TWENTYMAN: Week 2 observations

Mr. do it all: Detroit Lions third-year DB Brian Branch is one of the most versatile safeties in the NFL. His skillset allows Lions defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard to use him all over the field. In Sunday's win over Chicago, Branch recorded six tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, one quarterback hit, a forced fumble and a pass defended.

Double trouble: Lions wide receivers Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams both recorded 100 receiving yards Sunday and each found the end zone, Williams on a 44-yard strike and St. Brown three times on touchdown receptions of four, eight, and four yards. St. Brown's hands, shiftiness, and reliability coupled with Williams raw speed and big-play ability makes for a lethal one-two punch at receiver.

Touchdown machine: Running back Jahmyr Gibbs rushed 12 times for 94 yards (7.8 avg.) and one touchdown and had three receptions for 10 yards to total 104 scrimmage yards Sunday. Gibbs now has 32 career touchdowns through 34 career games, a ridiculous touchdown to games played ratio.

Pride of the Lions: Lions Legend Robert Porcher will forever have his name etched inside Ford Field as he was welcomed to the Pride of the Lions. Porcher was selected in the first round of the 1992 NFL Draft by the Lions and spent all 13 years of his career with Detroit. He was selected to three Pro Bowls and holds the franchise record with 95.5 career sacks.

Rookie performance: What a terrific bounce-back performance by rookie right guard Tate Ratledge after struggling some in his regular-season debut at Lambeau Field Week 1. There weren't any noticeable missed assignments. He was physical in the run game and he looked really good in pass pro as quarterback Jared Goff wasn't sacked a single time Sunday.

"I thought Tate played great today," Goff said after the game. "I haven't seen the tape, but at least in pass pro, it felt firm there. It felt firm, he felt strong, it felt like he was pushing downhill. It felt like he really settled in."

Offensive explosion: Detroit set a franchise record by averaging 8.8 yards per play on offense Sunday. They had at least 500 total net yards, five passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns in a single game for the first time in franchise history. Detroit's last six possessions with the starters in the game resulted in TD, TD, FG, TD, TD, TD. Detroit was 6-for-7 in the red zone vs. Chicago.

Stopping the sneak: Two big back-to-back plays for Detroit's defense were two failed Caleb Williams quarterback sneaks at the Chicago 37-yard line early in the second quarter. Defensive linemen Tyleik Williams and DJ Reader are a combined 660 pounds in the middle of the Lions' defense. They proved on both of those plays just how difficult they are to move around.

12-0: Gibbs and David Montgomery recorded a rushing touchdown in the same game for the 12th time. Detroit is 12-0 when both running backs score a touchdown in the same game.
