TWENTYMAN: 5 stats that stand out following Lions' Week 5 victory

The Detroit Lions kept things rolling Week 5 with a 37-24 win over the Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati. It was their fourth straight victory to improve their record to an NFL best 4-1 to start the season. It was a complementary performance from all three phases for the Lions to secure the decisive victory.

Here are five stats that stood out from Detroit's performance:

1. Number: 3, 2, 2, 1

What it means: For the first time in franchise history, the Lions produced a game with three interceptions, two sacks, two forced fumbles and one safety.

Twentyman: Detroit's defense was wildly productive as two of those interceptions deep in Bengals territory resulted in 14 points delivered by the offense. Derrick Barnes’ safety late in the fourth quarter notched two more points on the board for the defense. The Lions are now tied for third in the NFL with nine takeaways and own a plus-six turnover differential good for third best in the league. Detroit's 16.0 sacks on the year are second behind only Denver (21.0).

2. Number: 14-0

What it means: Detroit owns a perfect 14-0 record when Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery score a touchdown in the same game.

Twentyman: The 14 games in which both Gibbs and Montgomery have scored a scrimmage touchdown in the same game ties an NFL record for most games in which each member of a running back duo has produced a touchdown. There should be zero argument who the best backfield duo in the NFL is.

Gibbs and Montgomery complement each other perfectly and keep each other fresh throughout the course of a game and a season. The tough part about containing this duo for opposing defenses is the Lions don't change their offense or play calling when either back is in the game. They are two players who can do it all.

3. Number: 153.0

What it means: Quarterback Jared Goff’s passer rating Sunday in Cincinnati.

Twentyman: Goff is playing at a MVP level to begin the 2025 season. His 75.2 completion percentage and 12 touchdown passes are currently tops in the league. Sunday was his fifth career game with a passer rating of at least 150.0, tied for the fifth-most in NFL history (20 attempts per game minimum).

4. Number: 92.2

What it means: Average rushing yards allowed per game by the Lions' defense.

Twentyman: Detroit gave up 85 rushing yards to the Bengals Sunday which was the fourth game this season in which Detroit has allowed less than 100 yards rushing in their five contests. Detroit's run defense ranks in the top 10 in the NFL so far this season.

5. Number: 4

What it means: Games in a row Lions edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson has recorded at least 1.0 sack.

Twentyman: Not only is Hutchinson trending as the favorite to win Comeback Player of the Year but he's on a Defensive Player of the Year track through the first month and change of the season.

Hutchinson has 5.0 sacks, 12 quarterback hits and three forced fumbles in five games. He'll be looking to break the franchise record for five straight games with a sack Sunday night in Kansas City. Hutchinson currently ranks third in sacks behind only Nik Bonitto (7.0) and Byron Young (5.5).
