RECAP: Lions vs. Steelers

The Detroit Lions' playoff hopes took a big hit Sunday with a 29-24 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers at Ford Field. It's the first time Detroit has lost consecutive games since October of the 2022 season.

Detroit thought they had come back from a 12-point deficit in the fourth quarter when quarterback Jared Goff found wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown on a 1-yard touchdown pass with 25 seconds left, but wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa was called for offensive pass interference.

Detroit had another shot on a 4th & goal play from the 9-yard line a few plays later. Goff found St. Brown again but short of the end zone. While St. Brown was being pushed back, he pitched it back to Goff, who ran the ball into the end zone. St. Brown was called for offensive pass interference on the play and the game ended.

Detroit scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to set up the dramatic finish but couldn't find a way to put it away at the end. Detroit rushed for just 15 yards in the contest, the lowest total in the Dan Campbell era in Detroit.

The Lions fall to 8-7 on the season and their only path to the playoffs now is winning their next two games at Minnesota and Chicago and for Green Bay to lose against Baltimore next week and Minnesota to finish the season.

Detroit got touchdown receptions from TeSlaa, wide receiver Kalif Raymond and running back Jahmyr Gibbs in the loss. Gibbs passed Barry Sanders for most touchdowns (48) by a player in their first three seasons in NFL history.

Impact moment: Trailing 15-10 early in the fourth quarter, Detroit needed a big stop on defense after their offense went three and out inside their own 10-yard line, giving Pittsburgh great field position at the Steelers' 39-yard line.

Steelers running back Jaylen Warren sliced through the Lions' defense on the fourth play of the series for a 45-yard touchdown, giving Pittsburgh a 22-10 lead the Lions could never overcome.

Key stat: The Steelers out-gained the Lions 230 yards to 15 on the ground while winning the time of possession 34:06 to 25:54.

Injury report: Defensive back Avonte Maddox left the game late in the fourth quarter with an undisclosed injury and did not return.
