RECAP: Lions vs. Packers

The Detroit Lions are having a tough time stringing together wins this season.

Detroit has alternated between winning and losing each week dating back to Week 5 against Cincinnati. Their 31-24 loss to the Packers on Thanksgiving drops the Lions' record to 7-5 on the season as the Packers (8-3-1) take the season sweep of Detroit and a one-and-a-half game lead over the Lions in the NFC North standings.

Already down their starting center (Graham Glasgow), left guard (Christian Mahogany), top two tight ends (Sam LaPorta & Brock Wright) and No. 3 wide receiver (Kalif Raymond), Detroit was forced to play 51 minutes Thursday without top wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, who left with six minutes remaining in the first quarter with an ankle injury and did not return.

A depleted Lions' offense hung in there and kept the game close, but Detroit's defense couldn't find a way to make a key stop to help Detroit get any closer than three points in the second half.

The Packers manufactured 359 total yards of offense as Packers quarterback Jordan Love threw four touchdown passes and finished with a 124.2 passer rating. Green Bay ran out the last three minutes of the game with their offense on the field by collecting two first downs while draining Detroit's timeouts.

The Lions got a 3-yard touchdown run by David Montgomery and touchdown receptions from wide receivers Jameson Williams (22 yards) and Isaac TeSlaa (17). Jake Bates made his lone field goal attempt from 31 yards.

QB comparison: After starting the game 0-for-3 passing, quarterback Jared Goff completed his next 15 passes and finished the afternoon completing 20 of his 26 passes for 256 yards with two touchdowns, no interceptions and a 132.9 passer rating. Goff also had a 24-yard run. He was sacked three times.

Love had those four touchdowns passes on 18-of-30 passing with a 124.2 rating. He rushed five times for four yards. He wasn't sacked in the contest.

Big moment: Trailing 17-14 early in the second half, Detroit faced a 4th & 3 at the Green Bay 47-yard line looking to convert an inch closer to field goal range to tie the game or keep the drive on track to take their first lead of the contest.

Detroit handed it off to running back Jahmyr Gibbs, who was tackled in the backfield for a 2-yard loss and the Lions turned it over to Green Bay with great field position. Green Bay scored just two plays later on a 51-yard Love to wide receiver Christian Watson touchdown strike to extend Green Bay's lead back to 10 points at 24-14.

Key stat: When Love needed to make a throw, he did, and when Detroit's defense needed a key stop, they didn't get enough of them. That was the biggest story in Sunday's game as Green Bay was 6-for-12 on third down, 3-for-3 on fourth down and 2-for-2 in the red zone.

Star performer: With St. Brown leaving the game in the first quarter and Raymond being inactive with an ankle injury, the Lions needed Williams to step up in a big way and assume the No. 1 receiving role.

Williams finished with seven receptions for 144 yards with a touchdown. It was a career-high for receiving yards for Williams and his third 100-yard receiving performance this season and sixth of his career.

Injury report: St. Brown left the game in the first quarter with the ankle injury. He did not return to the game.
