Week 11 opponent: What the Eagles are saying

What are the Philadelphia Eagles talking about ahead of their Week 11 matchup at Lincoln Financial Field against the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football?

1. A Philadelphia edge group that had been hit by injuries and a retirement earlier in the year is now restocked after the un-retirement of Brandon Graham, Nolan Smith returning from an injury and a trade for Jaelan Phillips. Phillips made his Eagles debut with seven quarterback pressures, six total tackles, two tackles for loss and a fumble recovery playing 53 snaps in a win vs. Green Bay last week. Those players have joined Jalyx Hunt and Joshua Uche in Philadelphia's revamped edge rotation heading into Sunday's contest.

"It feels good. We're all working together to affect the quarterback," Smith told philadelphiaeagles.com after the win. "We play together and when we play together, we are unstoppable. We are on one page and we keep hunting, keep going."

2. Lions head coach Dan Campbell talked at length Wednesday about the challenges Philadelphia poses for his football team in all three phases. In fact, the Eagles are the only NFC opponent Campbell has yet to notch a victory against. He's 0-2 against the Eagles.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni certainly has the same level of respect for Campbell and the Lions in what should be one of the better matchups in the NFL in this week's slate of games.

"This is a really good team we're about to play," Sirianni said of Detroit. "Really well coached. Really good players. Physical, tough team. I got a lot of respect for this football team that's been doing it at a really high level for now the past three years. We expect their best and we know this is a really good team."

3. Because the Eagles played in Green Bay Monday night, they have less time to prepare for the Lions on Sunday. Sirianni said they did some prep work on Detroit during their Week 9 bye because they knew they'd be on a short week facing a top NFC opponent.

"We were able to get a little bit of that done there," he said. "Obviously, when we get back late on a Monday, you're a day behind but you're hoping everything you did prior to that gets you caught up."

Sirianni seemed confident they'll be ready for Detroit from a game plan perspective come Sunday night.

4. Philadelphia hasn't been as dominant offensively this season as we've been used to seeing the last few years under Sirianni as they rank 23rd in total offense and are 21st and 25th in the run and pass elements.

"It's just about being consistent," Sirianni said Wednesday of his offense. "There's been games we've been consistent throughout the game and there's been games we've sputtered at times. I think it's always about continuing to excel and trying to get better. We would have the same mindset if we scored 40 in that game (vs. Green Bay) of coming back to work and trying to get better as if we scored 10."

The Eagles scored just 10 points Monday against the Packers but got the win and have scored less than 20 points in three of their last five contests, including losses to the Denver Broncos and the New York Giants.

5. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was asked multiple questions by the Philadelphia media about wide receiver A.J. Brown not being involved in the offense Monday and after a few questions, he turned his focus on the Lions.

"We got the Detroit Lions, so I'm definitely going to put a halt to that (line of questioning)," he said. "We have a really good opponent coming into town. A team that I can only imagine has been waiting on the opportunity to play us given history and given how good they've been. Been a great team and a great organization and great coach and great culture."

6. Hurts said the Lions are a physical team that plays with great intensity. He said Detroit has a great mentality and he has a ton of respect for the Lions and what they are going to bring to the table Sunday night.

"It's hard to miss all the success they've had," he said. "Something we hold in high regard, and I have a lot of respect for this team coming in. We have to come ready to play."

7. What does Eagles cornerback Quinyon Mitchell see from Lions quarterback Jared Goff on tape?

"He's very accurate," Mitchell said. "Precise with his decisions and he's a great quarterback."
