NFC NORTH: Where all four teams stand heading into Week 8

GREEN BAY

Record: 4-1-1

Week 7 result: Green Bay 27, Arizona 23

Offensive rank: 14th (343.3)

Scoring offense: 7th (26.3)

Defensive rank: 6th (288.5)

Scoring defense: 10th (20.8)

Star performer: Edge rusher Micah Parsons recorded five tackles and three sacks in Green Bay's win at Arizona Sunday. Parsons recorded his 16th career game with at least two sacks, tied with TJ Watt for the fifth-most such games by a player in his first five seasons since 1982. Parsons has 5.5 sacks and 13 quarterback hits on the season.

Quotable: "I can't say enough about our guys," Packers head coach Matt LaFleur told packers.com after the game. "Just from the moment we got on the trip, nothing seemed to go right, to in-game a lot of things didn't go right. Guys kept battling, and that's what it takes in this league."

Twentyman: The Packers were stuck in Green Bay for six hours Saturday because of maintenance issues with their plane to Arizona. That threw off the entire schedule for a west coast trip, which can be tough, but Green Bay still found a way to go on the road and win a close game. Green Bay can run the football and get after the passer. Those two things travel anywhere and should serve them well the rest of the way.

DETROIT

Record: 5-2

Week 7 result: Detroit 24, Tampa Bay 9

Offensive rank: 9th (357.3)

Scoring offense: 3rd (30.7)

Defensive rank: 8th (300.0)

Scoring defense: 12th (21.6)

Star performer: Running back Jahmyr Gibbs rushed 17 times for 136 yards (8.0 avg.) and two touchdowns and added three receptions for 82 yards to total a career-high 218 scrimmage yards in the win Monday vs. Tampa Bay. Gibbs became the 10th player in NFL history and first player in franchise history to produce a game with 135 rushing yards, 80 receiving yards and two rushing touchdowns.

Quotable: "Defense played lights out. Give a lot of credit to Kelvin Sheppard. The plan to go against these guys, knowing what we were about to face, and those DBs, man (Arthur) Maulet and (Erick) Hallett (II) and (Thomas) Harper and (Nick) Whiteside and Amik (Robertson) and Rock (Ya-Sin). (Loren) Strickland had to come in and play a little bit, and (Tre) Flowers," Lions head coach Dan Campbell said.

"I just thought (defensive assistant/safeties coach) Jim O'Neil and (passing game coordinator/defensive backs coach) Deshea Townsend had those guys ready to go, and I think they competed, they challenged."

Twentyman: This is a dangerous Lions team heading into the bye expecting to get a lot of injured players back in the coming weeks. We knew the offense was going to be special (ranked third in scoring) but the revelation has been how well the defense has played under the direction of Sheppard. They are a top 10 unit seven weeks into the season. When the Lions get contributions from all three phases, they're nearly impossible to beat.

Next up: Bye week

CHICAGO

Record: 4-2

Week 7 result: Chicago 26, New Orleans 14

Offensive rank: 12th (346.5)

Scoring offense: 10th (25.3)

Defensive rank: 25th (350.0)

Scoring defense: 25th (25.8)

Star performer: Second-year wide receiver Rome Odunze is quickly becoming the No. 1 target of quarterback Caleb Williams. Odunze leads the Bears in targets (46), receptions (24), receiving yards (359) and receiving touchdowns (5). No other Bears pass catcher has more than one receiving touchdown this season.

Quotable: "Felt like that might have been the most physical game that we've played so far this year from our perspective," Bears head coach Ben Johnson told chicagobears.com. "I thought our guys came out and they played hard.

"You could certainly hear it and feel it on the sideline throughout that game. I thought it was evident there in the ground game statistics. We're slowly growing closer to what that vision is and what we want to be about. We talk about it all the time, but it's slowly starting to take shape."

Twentyman: That's four in a row for Johnson's crew and we're starting to see their head coach's fingerprints all over a top 10 scoring offense through Week 7. Chicago's defense has been a little bit of a disappointment to begin the year, but they are finding ways to win games and that's making this division one of the most competitive in football.

Next up: at Baltimore (1-5), Sun., Oct. 26, 1 p.m.

MINNESOTA

Record: 3-3

Week 7 result: Philadelphia 28, Minnesota 22

Offensive rank: 20th (318.7)

Scoring offense: 15th (24.2)

Defensive rank: 9th (301.7)

Scoring defense: 10th (20.8)

Star performer: Wide receiver Justin Jefferson recorded five receptions for 79 yards in Minnesota's loss Sunday. Jefferson has 529 career receptions and surpassed DeAndre Hopkins (528 receptions) for the second-most receptions by a player in his first six seasons in NFL history. Only Jarvis Landry (564 receptions) has more. Jefferson has 34 receptions on the season for 528 receiving yards.

Quotable: "The main issue was in the red zone today, just hurting ourselves and causing us to go backwards instead of forward," Jefferson told vikings.com of their 1-for-6 performance in the red zone vs. Philadelphia Sunday. "We've got to execute our plays to the fullest, take one play at a time, and when the opportunity comes, make those plays.

"One of those red zone drives is, that's me dropping the touchdown and not pulling the ball all way the in. I'm always critical of myself and always, especially, my opportunities are very, very slim, so those opportunities, I've got to make the most of them."

Twentyman: Sunday was a good test for the Vikings squaring off against the defending Super Bowl champs. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts maxed out his NFL passer rating (158.3) by completing 19 of 23 passes for 326 yards and three touchdowns. Scoring in the red zone (1-for-6) and allowing big plays on defense lead to Minnesota's downfall Sunday. The red zone has been an issue for the Vikings all season (ranked 20th). It's something they must clean up in an ultra-competitive division like the North.

Next up: at Los Angeles Chargers (4-3), Thurs., Oct. 23, 8:15 p.m.
