Jameson Williams is one of the most explosive receiving threats in the NFL and he'll continue to be just that for the Detroit Lions through at least 2029 as the team announced a contract extension for Williams Sunday morning.
Williams, 24, joins All-Pro safety Kerby Joseph as the second member of Detroit's 2022 draft class - Brad Holmes' second as Lions GM - to reach a contract extension with the team. Fellow 2022 first-round pick Aidan Hutchinson and the team have also begun preliminary talks on a contract extension, per Holmes.

After recording his first 1,000-yard receiving season last year, Williams came back this offseason determined to build on that success. He was a consistent playmaker in the offseason training program and training camp, and he is expected to have a big season for the Lions in 2025.
"Just becoming a more complete receiver," Williams said this week when asked where his game has taken its biggest strides heading into his fourth season. "Coaches are using me in different ways so it's a lot more ways I'm being used, and I'm just locked in on everything – route running, details, splits, speed control, a lot of things like that."
Williams caught 58 passes for 1,001 yards and seven touchdowns last season. He tied for the NFL lead with five receptions of 50-plus yards and four 50-plus-yard touchdown receptions. His 17.3-yard average per reception was second best in the NFL last year. Among all receivers with at least 50 receptions last year, Williams ranked first with an average of 8.6 yards after the catch.
He really focused on adding strength to his frame this season. Lions assistant head coach and wide receivers coach Scottie Montgomery said the added strength was certainly noticeable and has made a big difference in Williams' game.
"He came back, and I could immediately see the difference," Montgomery said. "Not only his body type but also his movement skills. It became not just explosive, but it became a point where now he could be explosive and stop on a dime. His progression has been his ability to stop and start or start and stop, either way you look at it. He's done a great job with that."
Now the Lions have their top two wide receivers, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Williams, signed through 2028 and 2029, respectively. St. Brown signed a four-year extension last offseason. The team is also high on rookie receivers Isaac TeSlaa (third-round pick) and Dominic Lovett (seventh), who made the roster out of training camp and are expected to be immediate impact players.
Detroit must feel really good about that receiver room both for the present and future with the good mix of steady production, speed, size, special teams ability and versatility. Veteran Kalif Raymond also returns for 2025 fresh off a terrific training camp.
