The Detroit Lions are tasked with trying to contain Chargers Pro Bowl edge rushers Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram today as the Lions welcome Los Angeles to Ford Field for a Week 2 NFC matchup.
They'll have to do so without starting left tackle Taylor Decker, who is inactive today with a back injury. Decker was limited in practice all week. He was questionable coming into the game.
The Lions will likely turn to second-year tackle Tyrell Crosby to fill the left tackle role. Crosby took reps with the first-team offense in the open portion of practice Friday.
The Lions will need a much better performance upfront this week against the Chargers than they got last week in Arizona, when Detroit allowed an NFL-high 22 quarterback hurries.
Detroit will also be without starting MIKE linebacker Jarrad Davis for a second straight week. Davis hasn't played since injuring an ankle Week 3 of the preseason. I expect rookie Jahlani Tavai and veteran Jalen Reeves-Maybin to fill in for Davis.
Defensive lineman Da’Shawn Hand, who's been dealing with an elbow injury since the first week of training camp, will also miss his second consecutive game.
Detroit will have the services of cornerback Rashaan Melvin. He was limited in practice this week with a knee injury, but he will play today.
Joining Decker, Davis and Hand on Detroit's inactive list today are: Guard Beau Benzschawel, cornerback Amani Oruwariye, wide receiver Travis Fulgham and quarterback David Blough.
