St. Brown 'super excited' to play in Munich this year

PHOENIX – The Detroit Lions will play a regular season game in Munich this year and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown can't wait.

"I'm super excited," St. Brown told reporters after taking part in an International Series and NFL Fashion forum at the Annual League Meetings Monday. "I've seen videos and seen stuff of teams playing there and I've asked players how it was playing in Germany and they all said, 'Man, the fans are electric they are amazing.'

"So, it's going to be great just for me to be out there with my teammates with them with my family to spend some time out there with them and be able to play football in Germany, which has always been a dream of mine since I was a kid."

St. Brown speaks fluent German and has dual citizenship. His mother Miriam got to break the news to him in a video call that Detroit was picked to play in Germany in 2026.

He is eager to share the German culture with his teammates and Lions fans this fall. It's why he said he jumped at the chance to speak Monday at League meetings.

"Just talking about being a global ambassador and being able to play in Germany and what it means and how important that is," he said. "Just how important that is not just in America but internationally in Germany, France, Mexico, the first game in Australia, there's so much going on."

The NFL is rapidly expanding its International Series, with a record-breaking slate planned for the 2026 season that includes nine games across four continents, adding new host cities like Paris, Rio de Janeiro and Melbourne.

"I think the NFL is doing a great job of expanding and I think they're realizing it's paying dividends for them," St. Brown said. "At the end of the day the fans make this game go. They move this game. Without the fans, this game is nothing and I think the NFL knows that and there are so many untapped fans in this world."

St. Brown said the game has exploded in Germany since the NFL started playing games there in 2022 and the NFL is hoping the same thing will happen in all the new markets to help grow the game.

"I'm just grateful and happy and I'm honored that football will be played in Germany," St. Brown said. "And we'll be part of it too."
