RECAP: Lions at Eagles

PHILADELPHIA – It was a tough night for Detroit's high-powered offense Sunday as the Lions managed just nine points in a 16-9 loss on the road to the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. It's Detroit's lowest point total since scoring six points on the road in a loss to Baltimore in 2023.

The loss drops the Lions to 6-4 on the season and currently on the outside looking in at the NFC playoff picture after Week 11.

Detroit had the No. 2 scoring offense in the NFL coming into Sunday averaging 31.4 points per game, but they found it tough sledding in cold, windy conditions at Lincoln Financial Field. Philadelphia's No. 18 ranked defense played inspired football all night, holding Detroit to 3-for-13 on third down, 0-for-5 on fourth down and 0-for-1 in the red zone.

Detroit's defense played very well in the loss despite being put in some tough situations on three sudden possession changes in Lions territory on a Jared Goff interception, a failed fourth-down try and a failed fake punt. Detroit's defense gave up only six points total in those three Eagles possessions that started in Lions' territory and kept Detroit in the contest all evening with their play. Philadelphia had just 272 yards of total offense and was 4-for-15 on third down.

Detroit's only touchdown of the contest came on a 40-yard pass from Goff to wide receiver Jameson Williams, who has now caught a touchdown in three straight games. Jake Bates missed the long extra point try. Bates hit a 54-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter to put the Lions within one score.

QB comparison: Goff finished the night completing 14 of his 37 passes for 255 yards with one touchdown, one interception and a passer rating of 60.1. He was sacked twice.

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts finished 14-of-28 passing for 135 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions with a 63.8 rating. He added 31 rushing yards and Philadelphia's lone touchdown on a 1-yard run on the tush push play.

Star performance: Despite Detroit's inconsistency on offense, running back Jahmyr Gibbs produced his first 100-yard receiving game, and the first by a Lions running back since Reggie Bush in 2013.

Gibbs finished with 107 receiving yards and 39 rushing yards for 146 total scrimmage yards. He's the first Lions running back to top 1,000 scrimmage yards and 10 scrimmage touchdowns through the first 10 games of a season since Barry Sanders in 1991.

Big moment: Detroit failed to convert their fifth fourth-down try of the night late in the third quarter trailing 13-6. Philadelphia took over at their own 45-yard line and proceeded to run 11 plays taking six minutes off the clock and converting a field goal to extend their lead to 10 points at 16-6.

Key stat: Detroit finished just 3-for-15 on third down and were 0-for-5 on fourth down. The Lions simply couldn't keep the momentum going on offense by converting on third and fourth downs to maintain possessions.

Injury report: Nothing of note.
