Historic performance: Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles helped his draft stock immensely this week with his on-field testing. Styles measured in at 6-foot-5, 244 pounds and has position versatility, starting his career as a safety before moving to linebacker. His 43.5-inch vertical was the best for a linebacker at the Combine in nearly two decades. He also added an 11-foot-2 broad jump (fourth best all-time among linebackers) and then blazed 4.46 seconds in the 40-yard dash. He's a versatile chess piece who really helped himself here in Indianapolis this week.
USC connection: USC wide receiver Makai Lemon has drawn comparisons to former USC and current Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown for their similar body types and play style. Lemon said Friday St. Brown is his favorite receiver in the NFL right now. He talked about what St. Brown does to impact the game without the football as something he respects and tries to emulate. NFL teams will probably love hearing that.

Day 3 sleeper: TCU linebacker Kaleb Elarms-Orr came into the Combine with a late-round grade in the sixth or seventh-round range, but a strong performance Thursday night might have teams looking to take a chance on the speedy linebacker earlier on Day 3. His 4.47-second 40-yard dash at 6-foot-2, 234 pounds turned some heads, as did his 40-inch vertical jump. The production was certainly there last year as he recorded 130 tackles, 11.0 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks for the Horned Frogs in 2025.
Gibbs Love: Jeremiyah Love's Combine profile lists his pro comparison as Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs. Like Gibbs, Love is an explosive athlete with a terrific combination of speed and power, who is considered one of the top overall prospects in his draft class. So it seemed rather fitting that when Love was asked Friday who he looks up to and tries to tailor his game after, Gibbs was the first name he mentioned. Love had 2,497 yards rushing and 35 touchdowns the last two seasons at Notre Dame.
Big crowd: The leader in the clubhouse so far for the largest media crowd at a podium session here in Indianapolis goes to Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza. He talked Friday morning and made sure to mention Las Vegas minority owner Tom Brady and how he'd love to learn from the 'goat' if the Raiders select him No. 1 overall in April.
Size questions: Sticking with the quarterback position, Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia finished second behind Mendoza in the Heisman Trophy voting but will have a much different path to the NFL. He measured under 5-foot-10 here at the Combine, which will likely concern several teams.
"I would just say turn on the tape," Pavia said Friday regarding his height. "It's not like we're not playing these guys that are going first-round, second-round on Saturdays in the SEC."
To his point, Pavia completed 70.6 percent of his passes for 3,539 yards with 29 touchdown and eight interceptions for Commodores in 2025, but his lack of size could make it more difficult for him to have a similar impact in the NFL.
Smooth operator: One of the players who impressed during Thursday's on-field workouts was UCF edge rusher Malachi Lawrence. He was smooth in on-field drills, and that fluidity matched his 4.52-second 40 time at 6-foot-4 and 253 pounds. He also had a 40-inch vertical and 10-foot-10 broad jump. He held a fifth-round grade coming into the Combine, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him creep into Day 2 after his week here. Lawrence recorded 19.5 sacks and 27.5 tackles for loss the last three seasons combined.
Man of many interests: USC wide receiver Ja'Kobi Lane (6-4, 196) was a kid of many interests, thanks to his mother. He said Friday his mom had him in ballet, gymnastics, swimming, lacrosse, basketball and football growing up.
"Just being able to grow, not only as an athlete, but as a person having all those different backgrounds," he said. "I think being able to get that side of athleticism at a young age (speaking of ballet), be light on my feet, but at the same time, be able to move is a huge thing."
Moving up draft boards: Pittsburgh linebacker Kyle Louis is an interesting prospect here in Indianapolis. The 6-foot, 220-pound linebacker showed off terrific explosive traits (39.5 inches in vertical ; 10-foot-9 broad jump) and ran the 40 in 4.57 seconds. He seems like a hybrid linebacker/safety prospect a creative defensive coordinator could have fun moving around from a weak side linebacker role or as a box safety.
WR class: This draft is particularly strong at edge rusher and wide receiver. The former could certainly be in Detroit's plans as they're on the lookout for a consistent and productive running mate opposite Aidan Hutchinson.
The Lions return their top three wide receivers – St. Brown, Jameson Williams and Isaac TeSlaa – but reliable veteran receiver and returner Kalif Raymond is headed toward free agency. He certainly could be a player the Lions look to re-sign but could Dominic Lovett potentially fill the role? When it comes to the Lions' potential interest in a receiver in the draft, look at players with late-round grades who have a history of consistent production and return ability as players who could fit.
