NFC NORTH: Where all four teams stand heading into Week 9

GREEN BAY

Record: 5-1-1

Week 8 result: Green Bay 35, Pittsburgh 25

Offensive rank: 7th (359.1)

Scoring offense: 5th (27.6)

Defensive rank: 6th (289.4)

Scoring defense: 10th (21.4)

Quarterback play: Jordan Love – 151-for-213 (70.9), 1,798 yards, 13 TD, 2 INT, 112.8 rating

Love diced up the Steelers' defense to the tune of 360 passing yards and three touchdowns on 29-of-37 passing in a Week 8 win.

Quotable: "He's him," Packers defensive end Rashan Gary told ESPN of Love after Green Bay's win over the Steelers Sunday night, "He's him. Everybody in the league, if y'all not woke, please wake up. Get the crust out your eyes because he is him, and 10 is coming. Period."

Twentyman: The Packers remain in first place in the division after a convincing win on the road in Pittsburgh Week 8. Love is playing the best football of his young career with an assortment of weapons and a stout run game in support. Both Green Bay and Detroit are heading toward a monster matchup in Detroit in a month on Thanksgiving.

Next up: vs. Carolina (4-4), Sun., Nov. 2, 1 p.m.

DETROIT

Record: 5-2

Week 8 result: Bye

Offensive rank: 8th (357.3)

Scoring offense: 3rd (30.7)

Defensive rank: 8th (300.0)

Scoring defense: 11th (21.6)

Quarterback play: Jared Goff – 152-for-203 (74.9), 1,631 yards, 15 TD, 3 INT, 116.4 rating

Goff currently ranks second in completion percentage and passer rating and is third in touchdown passes. He's thrown a touchdown pass in 13 straight contests.

Quotable: "Yeah, nice little break. 5-2 is a good spot to be," Goff said of Detroit's win over Tampa Bay before their bye week. "Coming off that I think we got Minnesota first. So good division game. We'll come back rested and ready to go for that one.

"There was a handful of things in this game that we got to clean up and work on and find a way to improve on. Certainly, offensively I don't think (Tampa Bay game) was up to our standards. Now, that's not going to take away from the enjoyment of the win but at the same time, there's a lot of things to fix right now that we need to be on top of, and we will be. We'll be fine."

Twentyman: One of the big things Detroit's offense must improve is their play on third down. It was something head coach Dan Campbell highlighted Monday. Detroit is 21st in the NFL converting on third down at just 37.6 percent. They finished last year third in the NFL on third down at 47.6 percent. Detroit has 16 three-and-out drives this season after having just 25 all of 2024. There is room for improvement for an offense that's third in scoring and eighth in total offense heading into Week 9.

Next up: vs. Minnesota (3-4), Sun. Nov. 2, 1 p.m.

CHICAGO

Record: 4-3

Week 8 result: Baltimore 30, Chicago 16

Offensive rank: 12th (350.1)

Scoring offense: 15th (24.0)

Defensive rank: 25th (350.7)

Scoring defense: 25th (26.4)

Quarterback play: Caleb Williams – 138-for-223 (61.9), 1,636 yards, 9 TD, 4 INT, 90.2 rating

Williams connected on 25-of-38 passes for 285 yards with one interception and a 77.2 passer rating in the loss in Baltimore Sunday.

Quotable: "Penalties and being able to score in the red zone ... I think that's the two main things that we've got to fix," Williams told chicagobears.com after the loss to the Ravens Sunday. "We could have been up 14 with those first two drives that we had. That could have created a bunch of momentum for us, and I think that's how it's been a good amount of the year, especially these past two games. (We've) been in the red zone a bunch and have not necessarily been able to punch it in."

Twentyman: It was a pretty accurate assessment from Williams on a couple of areas that continue to plague the Bears. Chicago is just 11-for-23 (47.8 percent) scoring touchdowns in the red zone, which ranks 26th in the NFL. They've also been called for 64 penalties in seven games, fifth most in the league, which comes out to roughly nine per contest. Chicago ranks in the top half of the league offensively, which was to be expected with Ben Johnson taking over that side of the football, but defensively they rank in the bottom quarter. If they are going to make a playoff run the next two months they must get more consistent play from their defense.

Next up: at Cincinnati (3-5), Sun., Nov. 2, 1 p.m.

MINNESOTA

Record: 3-4

Week 8 result: Los Angeles Chargers 37, Minnesota 10

Offensive rank: 26th (296.6)

Scoring offense: 18th (22.1)

Defensive rank: 14th (318.4)

Scoring defense: 19th (23.1)

Quarterback play: J.J. McCarthy – 24-for-41 (58.5), 301 yards, 2 TD, 3 INT, 67.2 rating

McCarthy is expected to make his third career start and first since suffering a high ankle sprain Week 2 in Minnesota's Week 9 division matchup in Detroit Sunday.

Quotable: "He got some work in today and will hopefully get some work throughout the early part of the week which will lead him into a full week of preparation, and I feel positive about where he's at," Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell said on McCarthy's availability for Sunday.

Twentyman: With Carson Wentz heading to IR and McCarthy back healthy, it's up to the second-year QB to run the show on offense. McCarthy is a bit of a gunslinger which has put the ball in danger a few times (three interceptions & one lost fumble) back in Weeks 1 & 2. Minnesota has struggled to run the football (ranked 26th) with consistency which puts a lot of pressure on McCarthy moving forward.

Next up: at Detroit (5-2), Sun., Nov. 2, 1 p.m.
