Lions sign free agents WR Jace Billingsley and DE George Johnson

Allen Park, Mich. –The Detroit Lions announced today that they have signed free agents WR Jace Billingsley and DE George Johnson. Contract terms were not disclosed.

In addition, the Lions announced that they have waived WR Jared Abbrederis and DE Jacquies Smith.

Billingsley returns to Detroit after beginning the season on the practice squad before appearing in two games with the club on the active roster. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent with the Lions in 2016 out of Eastern Oregon.

Johnson returns to Detroit after most recently spending a portion of 2017 with the club, appearing in four games while registering two tackles. Currently in his sixth season, Johnson has appeared in 42 career games (five starts) and has totaled 58 tackles (38 solo), six sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He entered the NFL with the Buccaneers in 2010 as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Rutgers.
