How he fits: Fano is an interesting study in this year's NFL Draft because different teams might have a different idea for his best position in the pros because of his arm length. Teams typically like their tackles to have at least 34-inch arms. Fano's arms measured 32 1/8 at the NFL Scouting Combine, though it should be noted, Fano's arm length measured 32 7/8 at Utah's pro day, a significant jump from the Combine.
Watching Fano's tape you'd never know he had shorter arms. He started at left tackle at Utah as a freshman and moved over to right tackle as a sophomore where he has started the last two seasons. He's a terrific athlete who is quick out of his stance with good feet and terrific technique. In the run game, he's a people mover who Utah ran behind when they needed tough yards.
Fano has position versatility being able to flip inside to guard because of his strength and athleticism. He even took snaps at center at the Combine.
Lions All-Pro tackle Penei Sewell measured a 33 1/4 inch arm length back at the Combine in 2021 and he's had an impressive NFL career so far. When Fano was asked about his favorite tackles to watch in the NFL, Sewell's name was the first one he mentioned.
"I love the way that he moves," Fano said of Sewell. "I mean, he can, he can move around. He's making any block, he can block anybody. Just he's able to get out there in space and hit people."
Key observations: Fano allowed 0 sacks, 0 quarterback hits and just five total pressures last season in 12 starts.
What they had to say about him: "Fano lacks ideal proportional build but compensates with loose hips, quick feet and high-end athleticism. He has the tools to mirror speed rushers, wall off the top of the pocket and find a late anchor when taking the worst of a bull rush. He needs to stay square longer to prevent inside moves and refine his punch approach/timing.
"His athletic profile is designed for move-based blocking schemes where he can pull, reach and climb while beating opponents to the spot with quickness/feel for hitting landmarks on time. He gives good effort as a downhill blocker but issues with pad level and core strength lead to him being overtaken as the rep progresses. Fano's level of NFL success might be tied to scheme fit and individual matchups." – Lance Zierlein, NFL Draft Analyst

How he stacks up: Dane Bruger of The Athletic is high on Fano, listing him as the No. 8 overall prospect and top tackle prospect in the class.
"An impressive athlete for the position, Fano is quick out of his stance in pass protection and has the bend, balance and sudden hands to neutralize different types of rushers," Brugler wrote.
NFL media and draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah has Fano listed as the No. 14 overall prospect in his latest list of the Top 50 players available in the class. Only Miami's Francis Mauigoa is ranked higher by Jeremiah (No. 10) among tackles.
ESPN's Field Yates has Fano as the No. 3 tackle after Mauigoa and Georgia's Monroe Freeling. Same for fellow ESPN draft analyst Matt Miller.
Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN has Fano as the No. 10 overall prospect on his latest Draft Big Board, but lists him as a guard, ahead of Penn State's Olaivavega Ioane, who is widely considered the best interior offensive lineman in the class.
"He is technically sound, ran 4.91 in the 40-yard dash and shows good punch to compensate for his lack of ideal arm length," Kiper wrote of Fano. "But with 32⅛-inch arms, I think he could kick inside in the pros."
What he had to say: "You're getting someone that's not gonna allow himself to fail," Fano said at the Combine. "I have too many people to prove right to allow myself to fail them and fail myself. So, I'm gonna do everything it takes to be great in this league."
