Lions sign free agent QB Matt Cassel

Allen Park, Mich. –The Detroit Lions announced today that they have signed free agent QB Matt Cassel. Contract terms were not disclosed.

Cassel comes to Detroit after spending the previous two seasons (2016-17) with the Tennessee Titans. He appeared in two games last season and finished with 25 completions on 42 attempts for 162 yards and one touchdown.

A seventh-round draft selection (230th overall) by the New England Patriots in the 2005 NFL Draft out of Southern California, Cassel's previous NFL stops include New England (2005-08), Kansas City (2009-12), Minnesota (2013-14), Buffalo (2015), Dallas (2015) and Tennessee (2016-17). In 105 career games (81 starts), he has logged 1,571 completions on 2,666 attempts (58.9 percent), 17,449 yards and 104 touchdowns. He has also appeared in five postseason games.
