Lions sign DE George Johnson and waive DE Alex Barrett

Allen Park, Mich. – The Detroit Lions announced today that they have signed DE George Johnson and waived DE Alex Barrett. Contract terms were not disclosed.

Johnson returns to Detroit after spending the 2014 season with the Lions where he appeared in all 16 games and recorded 26 tackles (21 solo), six sacks and one fumble recovery. He most recently spent the last three seasons (2015-17) with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Currently in his sixth season, Johnson has appeared in 38 career games (five starts) and has totaled 56 tackles (36 solo), six sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He entered the NFL with the Buccaneers in 2010 as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Rutgers.
