Lions add Derius Swinton to coaching staff as offensive assistant

Allen Park, Mich. – The Detroit Lions announced today the following update to the coaching staff:

DERIUS SWINTON – OFFENSIVE ASSISTANT COACH
Swinton joins the Lions coaching staff with 11 years of previous coaching experience, including eight in the NFL. He most recently served as an assistant special teams coach with the Chicago Bears in 2017 after spending the 2016 season with the San Francisco 49ers as the team's special teams coordinator. His time in the NFL includes a previous stint with the Bears in 2015 following stops with the Denver Broncos (2013-14), Kansas City Chiefs (2012) and St. Louis Rams (2009-11). A former safety and basketball player at Hampton University, the Newport News, Va., native earned his coaching start as a defensive graduate assistant at the University of Tennessee from 2007-08.
