Campbell provides injury updates ahead of first camp practice

The Detroit Lions kicked off training camp at the Meijer Performance Center Sunday, and head coach Dan Campbell gave updates on the team's injury situation ahead of the first practice Sunday morning.

Veteran defensive lineman Levi Onwuzurike, who re-signed on a one-year free-agent deal this offseason, will miss the entire 2025 season after undergoing surgery for an ACL injury.

"Levi's surgery was significant, and it needed to be done," Campbell said. "Out of his control and needed to be done. So he will miss the season."

Fellow defensive lineman Alim McNeill (ACL recovery) starts camp on the physically unable to perform list along with tackle Taylor Decker, cornerback Khalil Dorsey, guard Miles Frazier, linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez and defensive tackle Mekhi Wingo.

Decker is dealing with a shoulder injury that required offseason surgery. Campbell said he expects Decker to start working back into practice in early September.

"We feel like there's a good chance we can get (Decker) back after the Hall of Fame Game (July 31)," he said. "He's good. Just cleaned up his shoulder a little bit and we're going to work him back in when he's ready to go. He's in a good place."

Defensive lineman Josh Paschal and cornerback Stantley Thomas-Oliver will start camp on the non-football injury list.

Paschal will be a little bit longer in his recovery than Decker as he's dealing with an undisclosed injury, but Campbell said he still expects Paschal back on the field sometime in September around Labor Day.

Linebacker Alex Anzalone, defensive lineman Al-Quadin Muhammad and linebacker Anthony Pittman will sit out practice Sunday but Campbell said they aren't dealing with anything serious and should be back to practice soon.
