MISSION STATEMENT

Mission Statement

The Quick Lane Bowl was created to annually host a premier college football bowl game in Detroit, Michigan, to provide a first class experience to the participating conferences, participating institutions, student-athletes and fans, to promote the City of Detroit and contribute to the economic revival of Southeast Michigan, and to support community and youth groups that have adopted athletic and leadership development programs dedicated to football in the City of Detroit.

Becoming the Quick Lane Bowl

Ford Field has been home to many college football bowl games, and the Silverdome before that. After hosting college bowl games for nearly three decades at their home stadium, the Detroit Lions wanted to take part in the tradition by bringing their own bowl game to Ford Field.

The Lions' wish was granted when Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany had expressed a desire to revamp the conference's lineup of bowl games for the 2014 season to keep them "fresh." With the approval and support of both the Big Ten Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) football committees, the Lions created their own bowl game.

Ford Motor Company's Quick Lane Tire & Auto Center became the title sponsor prior to the inaugural game in 2014 and will retain naming rights through 2022.

The Big Ten Conference, who first partnered with The Detroit Lions on the game in 2013 extends their agreement through 2025. The Mid-American Conference (MAC) will replace the ACC as primary bowl partner beginning in 2020 after previously being the game's secondary partner.

At the end of the college football season, officials from both conferences meet with bowl officials to determine the best possible matchup and choose their team representatives.

While the two participating teams and travel parties are in Detroit, the Quick Lane Bowl treats them to the best that Detroit has to offer. Festivities have included a welcome dinner at the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation™; a trip to the Fowling Warehouse; ice skating at Campus Martius; helping feed the hungry at Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan; exploring the Detroit Institute of Arts, Michigan Science Center, DNR Outdoor Adventure, and The Parade Company; shopping & creating Build A Bears at the Somerset Collection, touring the city of Detroit, and so much more!
