The Detroit Lions open the 2025 season against divisional rival Green Bay at Lambeau Field on Sunday. It's a headline-worthy Week 1 matchup for the Lions for the third straight year, previously facing the Los Angeles Rams in 2024 and the Kansas City Chiefs in 2023.
Last week: The Packers finished the preseason 2-1 with wins against the Indianapolis Colts and Seattle Seahawks, and a loss to the New York Jets.
History: The two teams are no strangers, meeting 191 times with Green Bay leading the all-time series 106-78-7. In the past ten years, the Lions have an 11-9 series lead over the Packers.
The Lions won both contents last season, 24-14 in Green Bay and 34-31 at home. The most recent matchup came down to a 35-yard field goal as time expired to give the Lions the victory.
Storyline to watch: Micah Parsons has been the biggest topic of conversation headed into the Week 1 matchup between the two rivals.
The 12th overall pick of the 2021 draft by the Dallas Cowboys, Parsons has totaled 52.5 sacks and 256 tackles over his first four seasons in the league. The Packers acquired Parsons in a trade with Dallas for defensive lineman Kenny Clark and 2026 & 2027 first-round picks.
The Lions have seen Parsons' impact when facing the Cowboys and they will need to keep a close eye on him if he makes his Green Bay debut Sunday.
"We'll see how he responds every day," Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said about Parsons' ability to play Week 1. "You know, again, we're hopeful, but no, no guarantees."
