NOTEBOOK: St. Brown's leadership, toughness on display in TNF win over Cowboys

Despite missing the entire week of practice with an ankle injury suffered on Thanksgiving, Lions All-Pro wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown played Thursday night in Detroit's 44-30 win over the Cowboys.

It was a gutty performance from St. Brown as he finished with six receptions on nine targets for 92 yards, including a key 37-yard reception late in the contest to set up a touchdown.

"St. Brown is what we are," Lions head coach Dan Campbell said after the game. "He's what we are. Where he goes, we go. His toughness, his will power, his desire to compete, to help those guys around them to do whatever it takes is second to none. He's rare, man. He refuses to fail."

Quarterback Jared Goff said there aren't many players like St. Brown who could battle through injury and still come up big all night.

The icing on the cake for St. Brown Thursday was establishing a new record for the most receptions through a player's five-career seasons in league history (511). The previous record belonged to Michael Thomas, who totaled 510 receptions through five-career seasons.

Now St. Brown and the Lions get 10 days off to heal up and prepare for the Los Angeles Rams Dec. 14.

TOUCHDOWN MACHINE

It seems like every week Jahmyr Gibbs does something that puts him in rare company.

Gibbs came into Thursday's contest vs. Dallas leading the NFL with 44 touchdowns since entering the league in 2023. With three touchdown runs Thursday, Gibbs tied Hall of Famer Barry Sanders for the most touchdowns (47) for a player in his first three years in the NFL.

"He's unique. He's special," Campbell said of his third-year running back. "Everybody knows what he can do in the run game ... but the pass game stuff, he just continues to grow."

Gibbs also added seven receptions for 77 yards and totaled 120 scrimmage yards with those three touchdowns.

Gibbs and fellow Lions running back David Montgomery have each produced a scrimmage touchdown in the same game 15 times after Montgomery notched his sixth of the season on a 35-yard run in the second quarter. It's the most games in which each member of a running back duo has produced a touchdown in the Super Bowl era.

EXTRA POINTS

  • Safety Brian Branch left the game late in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury. Campbell said he would know more about the severity of the injury Friday.
  • Detroit recorded five sacks against the Cowboys led by Al-Quadin Muhammad's three to now give him 7.0 on the season. Aidan Hutchinson (8.5) and Muhammad (7.0) are Detroit's first duo to each produce 7.0 sacks through the first 13 games of a season since 2011, when Cliff Avril (9.0) and Kyle Vanden Bosch (7.0) did so.
