Martin to host free youth football camp

Detroit, MI: Detroit Lions Punter Sam Martin will host a Free Youth Football Camp on Saturday, June 2, 2018, from 9am-2pm, at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center (15801 Michigan Avenue) in Dearborn, Michigan.

The Camp, presented by the Sam Martin Foundation, is Free and will be open to pre-registered boys and girls between the ages of 6-13.  Each camper will get a T-shirt, lunch, and beverages.  Martin is expected to be joined by several of his Lions’ teammates who will serve as coaches to help teach young players football skill sets for various positions, sportsmanship, and teamwork.  Martin and the Lions’ players will also host off-field educational activities for the kids after lunch.

“I’m really excited to be putting together my first free camp for kids,” said Martin.  “Football is a great way to engage kids on the field, while helping them understand the importance of getting a good education and being good citizens off the field.  My foundation works year-round to benefit area children, and this is an excellent way for myself and my teammates to get out in the community and make a greater impact in young lives.”

Sam Martin has been giving back to Detroit and it’s surrounding communities since he was drafted by the National Football League’s Detroit Lions in 2013.  He established the Sam Martin Foundation in 2016 to enhance the lives of children with physical & mental challenges, and to improve the welfare of animals.

In the last year alone, Martin has hosted three major events to enhance the lives of children and families in Detroit, donated four semi truck loads of dog food and $10,000 to support Hurricane Harvey victims for the #Detroit2Houston emergency supply drive, and launched a Twitter campaign for victims’ pets that became the Ninth most Re-tweeted Tweet of 2017.
