Martin holding halloween costume contest for dogs

DETROIT -Detroit Lions Punter Sam Martin is holding on a Halloween costume contest on social media that's for the dogs, literally!  For the second year in a row, Martin has partnered with Premier Pet Supply in Beverly Hills, Michigan, to give fans a chance to showcase their dogs  all dressed up in Halloween gear, while raising funds for a great local cause.

The contest, called "Kick Or Treat for 6", (6 is Martin's jersey number), is open now through October 28, 2017.  To enter, contestants need to post pictures for their pets in fun and creative Halloween costumes to Instagram or Twitter using the Hashtag #KickOrTreatfor6.

For every Post uploaded to social media outlets with the hashtag #KickOrTreatfor6, Sam  Martin will personally donate $6 to the Sam Martin Foundation Pet Fund for animal welfare, and Premier Pet Supply will donate six (6) pounds of dog food to the Michigan Humane Society.  Martin is putting out a public challenge for two or three additional companies to step up and match his $6 donation per post for animal welfare.

First place for the best Halloween-dressed pooch will win 4 tickets to a Lions game and FREE Dog Food for a year!  Second place will win 2 tickets to a Lions game, pet food, and a Premier Pet Supply Gift Card.  Premiere Pet Supply will also be awarding   a Gift Card and pet food to the third place winner.

Winners of the #KickOrTreatfor6pet costume contest will be announced live by Martin on October 28th at 2:00pm at Premiere Pet Supply (31215 Southfield Rd, Beverly Hills).   Martin will also give away an additional two tickets to an upcoming Detroit Lions game at the event.

"We are so excited to team up with Sam Martin again for this campaign,"  said Premier Pet Supply owner, Mike Palmer.  "It's such a fun contest for pet owners, and the the funds raised will directly benefit animals through Sam's Pet Fund and the Michigan Humane Society.  With the recent hurricanes, the need is greater than ever for the pet population, and we're so happy to be able to help!"

Martin, one of the NFL's leading punters, has a passion for helping animals in need.  In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, Sam and his dog "Leo" Tweeted a pledge to donate six pounds of dog food for Houston's displaced animals, up to a $10,000 value, for every Retweet of the post.  The post quickly spread across social media and had more than 8,000 Retweets in the first hour alone.

"It's always been a priority for me to help out animals in need," said Martin.  "Creating the Foundation Pet Fund for animal welfare, and partnering with the Michigan Humane Society and Premier Pet Supply on this and other events, is a great way to help support animals right here in Michigan.  I love seeing how creative the fans get with these pet costumes, too."

Contestants will have almost the entire month of October to submit their photos, and are encouraged to get as creative as they want with their pets, as Martin is looking for the best Halloween-related costume idea submitted for #KickOrTreatfor6.  Sam will announce the winners of his Halloween social media campaign in-person at Premiere Pet Supply of Beverly Hills on October 28th at 2:00pm.
