DETROIT, MI: Detroit Lions Punter Sam Martin will be hosting his Annual Celebrity Softball Game with the Detroit Lions on Saturday, June 9, 2018, to benefit the Sam Martin Foundation.
The Celebrity Softball Game will be held at King Boring Field (15801 Michigan Avenue) in Dearborn, Michigan. Gates will open at Noon, with the Home Run Derby starting at 1pm, and the Celebrity Game at 2pm.
The annual charity event, which was hosted for several years by now-retired Lion Stephen Tulloch, will feature Martin and his Lions teammates in an offense vs defense fun softball grudge match against a team of Lions players led by A'Shawn Robinson. The event has become a yearly tradition for Lions fans to come out, meet their favorite players, and have a day of family fun together at the ballpark.
"This is my second year hosting the game, and I'm really looking forward to a big win for Team Martin, and a big win for all who will benefit from the funds raised for the Foundation," said Martin. "This event has always been a great time for the fans and the Lions players, too. I really appreciate the support of the amazing guys at Power Home Solar, who are doing so much for my foundation, this event, and my free youth football camp on June 2nd, along with the support of my teammates and the community, who always come up big for the causes supported by my foundation."
"We opened our Michigan office a year ago and heard about Sam's foundation and this event, and immediately wanted to reach out and get involved," said Jayson Waller, Co-Founder of Power Home Solar and Roofing. "We are excited to be in our community and, as lifelong Lions fans, we are always proud to see the players making a difference off the field."
The Celebrity Softball Game is open to the public and admission is only $10 at the gate (children under 3 are free). In addition to the opportunity to meet some of Detroit's favorite athletes, The Game will also have a Family Fun Zone with food trucks, face painting, a Live DJ, and giveaways from event partners and sponsors.
Sam Martin has been giving back to Detroit and it's surrounding communities since he was drafted by the National Football League's Detroit Lions in 2013. He established the Sam Martin Foundation in 2016 to enhance the lives of children with physical & mental challenges, and to improve the welfare of animals.
In the last year alone, Martin hosted first Celebrity Softball Game, his 2nd Annual COTS Christmas Kick-off, his second Thanksgiving Dinner Giveaway, donated $10,000 to support Hurricane Harvey victims, and launched a Twitter campaign for victims' pets that became the Ninth most Re-tweeted Tweet in 2017 (623,000 RT's)!
