DETROIT LIONS DON CAREY TO HOST FREE FOOTBALL CAMP

Friday, June 3, 2016 – Detroit, MI.  Don Carey of the Detroit Lions will host a free STEM Day & Youth Football Camp at Cody High School on Saturday, June 4th from 8 am – 4 pm.  Carey is teaming up with Athletes for Charity to present the camp to benefit the youth of Detroit, MI.  Camp Registrations are now closed with nearly 300 registered campers (on site registrations will not be honored).

"I am really excited to be hosting a very unique event to benefit the youth of Detroit that will fuse the learning of football drills with the exploration of science, technology, engineering and math," says Don Carey.  "Looking forward to partnering with Athletes for Charity, my teammates and the host of sponsors and volunteers who have committed to making the event a huge success for the kids."

Carey is expected to be joined by nearly 20 of his teammates who include Ameer Abdullah, Quandre Diggs, Eric Ebron, Rafael Bush, Caraun Reid, Laken Tomlinson, Alex Carter, Jace Billingsley, Quinshad Davis, Ian Wells, Jay Lee, Antwione Williams, Gabe Wright, Cornelius Lucas, TJ Jones, Josh Bynes, Gabe Ikard, Graham Glasgow, Michael Ola, and Brandon Copeland.  Just to name a few.

The STEM Day & Youth Football Camp is being "fueled" by Marathon Petroleum Corporation (Title Sponsor), the NFL Foundation/USA Football (Platinum), Walbridge (Gold), Urban Science (Silver) and US Ice Corporation (In-Kind). Breakfast will be provided by McDonald's and lunch provided by Subway.  Additional partners for the STEM Day component of the camp will include Tata Technologies and Ford Motor Company, which are current sponsors of Athletes for Charity's four STEM Youth Literacy and STEM Forward Programs hosted at Clark Preparatory Academy, Dixon Educational Learning Academy, Cody High School's Detroit Institute of Technology and the Fleming Early Learning Neighborhood Center.  Confirmed presenters for STEM Day will include WSU's School of Medicine, WSU's College of Engineering, DAPCEP, the Wright Museum, and more.  There will be a variety of hands on activities to engage the campers including LEGOs, K'NEX, Robotics, etc.

The schedule for the day will include an educational panel session featuring Detroit Public School's Interim Superintendent Alycia Meriweather and a host of Detroit Lions players and staff members including a special appearance by Roary, fun STEM activities and the Football Clinic.
