Carey to host free STEAM Day & Football Camp for students

DETROIT: Detroit Lions Safety Don Carey will host a free STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) Day and Youth Football Camp at Martin Luther King, Jr. High School (3200 East Lafayette St, Detroit, MI) on Saturday, June 3, 2017 from 9 am – 3 pm.

The free camp, presented by The Don Carey REECH Foundation, will benefit 250 Detroit Public Schools students, ages 8-17 years old.

"Football is a great gateway to help kids understand the importance of an education," said Carey.  "I am really excited to host this event for our Detroit children.  The  camp will provide a full day of learning; from football drills on the field to the exploration of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math inside the school.  My teammates will be there, along with a great group of sponsors and volunteers, and everyone's committed to making this event a huge win for the kids!"

The free STEAM Day & Youth Football Camp will help kids "go farther", thanks to the generous support of Ford Motor Company as it's Title Sponsor.  The camp will expose students to a variety of fun and exciting activities, both on the football field and inside the school.  Football training with the NFL pros will focus on sportsmanship, speed and agility, while campers will get the chance to participate in a number of hands-on activities that focus on STEAM education in the high school gym, cafeteria, and auditorium.  Campers will be provided with breakfast and lunch during the event.

Carey is expected to be joined by several of his Detroit Lions teammates for the football portion of the camp.  Presenters for the STEAM portion of the camp include; Ford Motor Company, Arts and Scrap, Wayne State University School of Medicine and College of Engineering, University of Detroit Mercy Chemist Club, Marathon Petroleum Corporation, STEM Education Coalition, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, Madonna University, and Henry Ford Community College.

Registration for Don Carey's free STEAM Day & Youth Football Camp will run through May 21, 2017.  DPS students between the ages of 8 and 17 interested in participating in the free camp must register in advance at http://reechfoundation.org.
