O técnico Dan Campbell falou com a imprensa pela primeira vez desde a derrota por 30 a 17 para o Kansas City Chiefs, no último domingo à noite, em Kansas City. A seguir, os principais temas abordados:
Qual foi a reação de Campbell à suspensão de uma partida do safety Brian Branch após a briga pós-jogo com o wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, dos Chiefs?
"Próximo homem em campo."
Campbell disse que Branch vai aprender com o episódio e será melhor por causa disso, mas deixou claro que seu foco agora está em quem estará disponível para jogar na próxima segunda-feira, contra o forte ataque do Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
"Ele é um jovem excepcional", disse Campbell sobre Branch. "De fato é. Tem um grande coração. Cometeu um erro, e vai aprender com isso."
"Ele é um jogador importante para nós, e não é diferente de quando perdemos alguém em quem confiamos e que tem alta produtividade. O próximo precisa assumir o papel, contribuir e dividir esse peso com o resto do time. Todos precisam carregar um pouco mais da carga."
Branch está recorrendo da suspensão, mas Campbell precisa se preparar para enfrentar Tampa Bay sem ele. Se a punição for revertida, será um bônus, afirmou o treinador.
Quais são as últimas atualizações sobre lesões?
A probabilidade de Alim McNeill retornar ao time aumentou nas últimas semanas. O talentoso lineman defensivo pode voltar à equipe na segunda-feira, e Campbell disse que ele tem se mostrado bem nos treinos.
Já o safety Kerby Joseph, eleito All-Pro, está lidando com uma lesão no joelho. Campbell admitiu que o jogo de domingo não foi o mais produtivo de Joseph, já que ele precisou sair em alguns momentos por causa do incômodo. A comissão técnica vai decidir ao longo da semana se ele estará apto a jogar ou se será melhor deixá-lo descansar até a bye week, o que pode ajudá-lo a estar 100% para o restante da temporada.
Os cornerbacks Terrion Arnold (ombro) e Avonte Maddox (posterior da coxa) devem voltar após a folga da Semana 8, assim como o edge rusher Marcus Davenport e o linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez.
Campbell afirmou que o time deve estar em boas condições físicas em novembro, com vários retornos importantes previstos para a reta final da temporada, em dezembro e janeiro.
Como os Lions podem usar a derrota de domingo como combustível daqui pra frente?
Nenhum time gosta de perder, mas Campbell destacou que derrotas costumam despertar um senso maior de urgência e a vontade de apagar o gosto amargo de um resultado negativo.
"Às vezes, isso te dá aquele empurrão extra pra colocar as coisas de volta no lugar", disse o técnico.
O Kansas City é um grande time, e os Lions terão uma sequência igualmente desafiadora nas próximas quatro semanas, enfrentando Tampa Bay, Minnesota, Washington e Philadelphia.
"Você precisa estar no seu melhor quando enfrenta equipes desse nível — e é isso que eu gosto nessa sequência que vem por aí", afirmou Campbell. "Vamos encarar uma série de grandes times. A margem de erro é mínima, e foi isso que eu disse aos jogadores hoje. Isso me motiva, porque você precisa estar afiado. Não dá para errar aqui e ali contra adversários desse calibre."
Campbell disse que fazer bem as pequenas coisas e encontrar maneiras de vencer grandes equipes é o tipo de aprendizado que leva os times onde eles querem estar no fim do ano. Ele acredita que é exatamente o que o time precisa agora — e que sairá melhor dessa fase.

Campbell explicou que Gibbs tem recebido mais oportunidades porque participa do ataque nos momentos de "dois minutos", e o time tem vivido muitas dessas situações neste início de ano.
O técnico, porém, afirmou que gostaria de ver Montgomery recebendo mais carregadas daqui pra frente, equilibrando melhor o volume entre os dois running backs.
