New Lions select numbers

Lions general manager Bob Quinn filled a number of holes in the veteran free agent market this offseason.

He revamped his linebacking corps to add more size with the signings of Devon Kennard, Christian Jones and Jonathan Freeny.

Quinn also added a veteran to the running back room (LeGarrette Blount), and improved the depth at tight end (Luke Willson & Levine Toilolo) and along the interior of Detroit's offensive line (Kenny Wiggins and Wesley Johnson).

After Haloti Ngata decided to sign with Philadelphia in free agency, Quinn filled that hole with the signing of Sylvester Williams.

Detroit also added a versatile defensive back in DeShawn Shead.

All of the new players began work with their new team last week for the start of the offseason training program in Allen Park. One of their first duties was selecting their new jersey numbers with the Lions.

Here are their selections:

CB DeShawn Shead - 26

RB LeGarrette Blount - 29

LB Devon Kennard - 42

LB Christian Jones - 52

TE Luke Willson - 82

TE Levine Toilolo - 87

C Wesley Johnson - 73
