Meet the Prospect: Marlon Humphrey

Name: Marlon Humphrey

Position: Cornerback

School: Alabama

Ht/Wt: 6-0, 197

40 dash: 4.41 seconds

Bench: 10 reps

Broad: 125.0 inches

3-cone: 6.75 seconds

How he fits: Humphrey comes from great football bloodlines (he's the son of former Alabama and NFL RB Bobby Humphrey) and has the size, speed and physicality teams typically love on the outside.

The Lions have Darius Slay and Nevin Lawson under contract next season, and signed veteran D.J. Hayden in free agency, but cornerback is one position a team can never have too much talent.

Lawson looked pretty good in his first season as a full-time starter opposite Slay last season, but it's been GM Bob Quinn's MO since the day he took over to create an environment of stiff competition all over the field.

Key observation: Humphrey was named one of the Alabama coaching staff's defensive players of the week following his performances against USC, Western Kentucky, Texas A&M and Auburn this past season.

What they had to say about him: "Humphrey possesses the size and speed scouts are looking for on the outside and he appears to be just scratching the surface of his potential. His lack of ideal fluidity leaves him vulnerable to smaller, quicker receivers, however, and he has been complemented by a terrific pass rush over his career." – Rob Rang, CBSSports.com

How he stacks up: Humphrey is generally considered one of the top cornerbacks available in this draft after Ohio State's Marshon Lattimore. NFL Draft Scout and NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock both list Humphrey second at the position. ESPN draft analysts Mel Kiper and Todd McShay aren't quite as high on Humphrey, however. He's the fourth-best cornerback available, according to Kiper, and seventh by McShay.

What he had to say: "I think my best attribute is my speed and toughness. I think I can run with any guy. There's not many receivers that I played ... There isn't a receiver besides John Ross that I played that I ran with that I said, 'This guy's really, really fast.' I think I can run with just about anybody. I think that's my best trait."
