Camp Spotlight: Wide receiver Anquan Boldin

ANQUAN BOLDIN

Position: Receiver

Ht./Wt.: 6-1, 220

College: Florida State

Experience: 14th season

Outlook: A 13-year veteran, the highly productive receiver has amassed 1,009 receptions, 13,195 yards and 74 touchdowns over his career. He's one of just 13 receivers in league history to top 1,000 career receptions.

He steps into the slot and immediately adds toughness, experience and production to the position group in Detroit.

Even at 35 years old, don't expect him to slow down. He led the San Francisco 49ers in receptions (69), receiving yards (789) and touchdowns (4) last year.

Boldin, Golden Tate and Marvin Jones are expected to be a nice trio for quarterback Matthew Stafford on the outside.

Practice report: Boldin has been a steady target for Stafford throughout training camp, and Wednesday night, under the lights in Allen Park, was no different.

He had a particularly nice catch after a shimmy move on cornerback Quandre Diggs. Boldin froze the youngster and was able to get a completion on an out route.

He's proven to be a tough cover in one-on-one in drills, and that continued Wednesday. He has terrific hands and excellent body control, and uses both to his advantage.

He made a nice catch on a short out during a situational team drill that kept a drive humming.

Everything wasn't perfect, however.

He and Matthew Stafford weren't on the same page on a check at the line of scrimmage in a team drill early on in practice that resulted in an incompletion. But those have been rare through the first five practices.

Quotable: "What he's done Week 1 of coming in here has really, really impressed me," Stafford said of Boldin after Wednesday night's practice. "He's a really savvy veteran receiver with great hands and a knack for getting open. Just to step in and do what ... we're a complex offense and he's done a heck of a job stepping in and playing."
