Die Detroit Lions empfangen am Thanksgiving Day die Green Bay Packers zum 23. Aufeinandertreffen der beiden NFC North Rivalen. Detroit will zum zweiten Mal in Folge am Thanksgiving gewinnen, nachdem sie Chicago in der vergangenen Saison geschlagen haben. Außerdem wollen sie die Saisonserie gegen die Packers ausgleichen und mit einem Sieg heute in der NFC North Tabelle an ihnen vorbeiziehen.
Hier sind fünf Dinge, auf die man im heutigen Spiel achten sollte:
1. Macht Gibbs so weiter?
Jahmyr Gibbs führte Detroit am Sonntag mit 264 Scrimmage Yards und drei Touchdowns zum Overtime-Sieg gegen die New York Giants. In dieser Saison rangiert Gibbs in der NFL auf Platz eins im Durchschnitt pro Lauf (6,14), auf Platz zwei in Touchdowns (13), auf Platz drei in Rushing Yards (951) und auf Platz vier in Scrimmage Yards (1.330). Er ist außerdem ein wichtiger Teil von Detroits Passspiel mit 48 Receptions in diesem Jahr.
Detroit hatte im Week-1-Spiel in Green Bay nur 46 Rushing Yards (2,1 im Schnitt). Gibbs wurde bei neun Läufen auf 19 Yards gehalten. Green Bay hat die sechstbeste Run-Defense der NFL vor dem heutigen Spiel und erlaubt im Durchschnitt 96,5 Yards pro Partie am Boden.
2. Parsons eindämmen
Im ersten Aufeinandertreffen in Lambeau Field sackte die Packers Defense Lions Quarterback Jared Goff viermal und traf ihn neunmal, während Green Bay insgesamt 19 Pressures erzeugte.
Edge Rusher Micah Parsons hatte in diesem Spiel - seinem Packers-Debüt - einen Sack und ist eine großartige Ergänzung für die Packers Defense. Er führt das Team mit 10,0 Sacks in diesem Jahr an. Nur Detroits Aidan Hutchinson hat in dieser Saison mehr total Pressures als Parsons. Einer der großen Unterschiede in Woche 1 war, dass Green Bay seine Chancen in der Red Zone besser nutzte. Detroit war in der Niederlage nur 1-von-4 in der Red Zone, während die Packers 3-von-5 waren. Das ist ein 14 Punkte Unterschied in einem Spiel, das am Ende mit 14 Punkten Vorsprung an Green Bay ging.
Sowohl die Lions als auch die Packers gehören zu den führenden Teams in der NFL beim Scoring in der Red Zone: Green Bay auf Platz sechs (65,9 Prozent) und Detroit auf Platz sieben (65,1).
Ein Bereich, in dem Detroits Defense in dieser Saison zeitweise Probleme hatte, ist das Verhindern von RedZone Touchdowns. Sie rangiert auf Platz 25 in der Liga und erlaubt einen Touchdown in 61,1 Prozent der Fälle, wenn Gegner an die 20-Yard-Linie gelangen.

4. Druck auf Love
New York Giants Quarterback Jameis Winston hatte am Sonntag eine durchschnittliche Zeit von 3,22 Sekunden, um den Ball zu werfen - die zweitlängste durchschnittliche Release Time eines Quarterbacks in Woche 12 der NFL. Detroit verzeichnete am Sonntag nur einen Sack gegen Winston, obwohl es ein entscheidender in der Overtime von Hutchinson war, um den Sieg zu sichern.
Im ersten Spiel gegen die Packers gelang es Detroits Defense nicht, Packers Quarterback Jordan Love zu sacken, und sie trafen ihn nur zweimal. Detroit muss heute Wege finden, konstanteren Druck zu erzeugen, entweder mit ihrer Front Four oder über den Blitz. Detroits 32 Sacks in dieser Saison rangieren auf Platz acht der NFL.
5. Drops limitieren
Die Lions beendeten die vergangene Saison auf Platz eins in der NFL mit der geringsten Anzahl an fallen gelassenen Pässen (7) und der niedrigsten Drop-Quote (1,7 Prozent). Im Laufe dieser Season sind Drops wieder zum Thema geworden. Detroit hat die Gesamtzahl von letztem Jahr bereits verdoppelt und steht bei 14 Drops in 11 Spielen - mit einer Drop-Quote von 5,4 Prozent.
Wide Receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown und Jameson Williams wurden beide in dieser Saison mit fünf Drops geführt. Detroits Passfänger müssen heute das Beste aus ihren Chancen machen, um im Passspiel zu punkten- besonders gegen eine Packers Defense, die in der NFL sowohl bei den erlaubten Punkten als auch bei den Gesamt Yards zu den Top fünf gehört.
