Biography
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
- Joined the Lions as an undrafted free agent out of UMass following the 2025 NFL Draft.
COLLEGE:
- Played six seasons between Eastern Washington (2019-2023) and University of Massachusetts (2024). In his 49-game career, Keeney-James caught 111 passes for a total of 1,664 yards and 10 touchdowns.
- 2024 (Umass): Played in all 12 games and emerged as a key threat for the offense. Led the team in multiple receiving categories, including total yards (839), receptions (50) and touchdowns (6). Averaged nearly 17 yards per catch and close to 70 yards per game. Delivered standout performances, most notably a 150-yard game at Miami (OH) and a 75-yard touchdown reception at Georgia.
- 2023 (Eastern Washington): Started in two of the four games he played, while missing seven due to injury. Had 91 receiving yards and four catches against Montana State. Recorded a 31-yard reception vs Cal Poly.
- 2022 (Eastern Washington): Appeared in eight games for the Eagles, making six starts. Hauled in 18 catches for 228 yards and a touchdown. Tied a career-high with four receptions against Tennessee State, going for 36 yards in the process. Had two catches for 42 yards and a touchdown against Florida. Set a season-high with 63 receiving yards on three catches against Sacramento State, recording a long of 31 yards.
- 2021 (Eastern Washington): Named to the Big Sky Conference All-Academic team. Played in 12 games for the Eagles, making two starts. Hauled in 17 receptions for 246 yards and three touchdowns. Against Northern Colorado on 10/9/21, he had four catches for 42 yards. The next week against Idaho, James caught another four passes for 60 yards, scoring the first touchdown of his career in the process. His best outing of the season came in the FCS Playoffs against Montana, a game in which he caught four passes for 97 yards (24.3 per reception) and two touchdowns. One of the touchdowns was for 54 yards.
- 2020 (Eastern Washington): Played in six games and caught 10 passes for 125 yards. Had a 22-yard catch against Northern Arizona, and he had four grabs for 62 yards against Cal Poly.
- 2019 (Eastern Washington): Redshirted, but played in three games. Made his Eagle debut against Northern Arizona, and had his first career catch the next week with a 6-yard reception versus Idaho State. Played against Portland State. Was offensive scout team player of the week once.
PERSONAL:
- Majored in interdisciplinary Studies at Eastern Washington.
- Attended Redlands (Calif.) High School, where he was an All-League football honoree and a four-year varsity track athlete.
