Rob Lohman was promoted to Vice President, Roster Operations after spending seven seasons as the team's Director of Pro Scouting. The 2026 season marks Lohman's 20th with the Lions and his 26th in the National Football League. He was named the club's director of pro scouting in 2019. Prior to overseeing the pro scouting process, Lohman worked two seasons (2014-15) as the assistant director of pro personnel before being named the team's assistant director of pro scouting in 2016. He previously spent seven seasons as the team's college scouting coordinator and regional scout.
In his current role, Lohman oversees all areas of pro personnel acquisition for the Lions. Additionally, Lohman is responsible for working directly with Detroit's executive leadership on both the short and long-term roster planning and player acquisition strategies. He works closely with Lions Executive Vice President & General Manager, Brad Holmes on free agency planning, while also collaborating with Detroit's football administration staff on the development of the club's roster management strategies.
He has been pivotal in assisting Holmes with turning around the organization. With the help of Lohman's leadership, the Lions have recorded five-straight winning seasons (2022-24). In 2024, the team secured its first back-to-back NFC North Divisional title, while also winning the most regular-season games in franchise history with 15. Lohman was integral to the construction of the team's 2023 roster that helped the club to a 12-5 record, tying the single-season franchise record for wins in a season at the time. The 2023 season was the third season in team history to have multiple playoff games won, and the first time it occurred in a season for the franchise since 1957. The 2023 roster construction was also pivotal in helping Detroit clinch its first Division Championship since 1993 and advance to its first NFC Championship since 1991.
Lohman originally joined the Lions player personnel staff in May 2007 and had a variety of responsibilities in both college and pro scouting, including serving as the team's advance scout during his first season.
Previously, Lohman spent six years with the Houston Texans and was a member of the organization before it began play in the NFL in 2002. From 2004-06, he served as the team's northeast regional scout and was the team's pro administrator from 2002-03. Additionally, in 2003, he handled all team advance scouting duties. Lohman joined the Texans in 2001 as a scouting intern.
Before entering the NFL ranks, he was a graduate assistant at Syracuse University, where he earned his master's degree in higher education. In 1998, Lohman was a special teams and recruiting assistant at Hofstra.
Lohman graduated from the University of South Carolina, where he earned a bachelor's degree in sports management and worked with the Gamecocks' football program as an undergraduate recruiting assistant.
He and his wife, Mari, have a son, Brenden, and two daughters, Katie and Brynn.
