Lions awarded DE Dwight Freeney via waivers from Seattle

Allen Park, Mich. –The Detroit Lions announced today that they have been awarded DE Dwight Freeney via waivers from the Seattle Seahawks.

In addition, the Lions waived WR Jace Billingsley and signed CB Adairius Barnes to the practice squad.

Freeney comes to the Lions after most recently playing in four games with Seattle this season where he recorded three sacks. Currently in his 16th season, he has previously spent time with the Atlanta Falcons (2016), Arizona Cardinals (2015), San Diego Chargers (2013-14), and Indianapolis Colts (2002-12).

A seven-time Pro Bowler, Freeney's career totals include 341 total tackles, 125.5 sacks, 47 forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and 16 pass defenses. He originally entered the NFL in 2002 after being drafted in the first round (11th overall) by the Colts out of Syracuse.

Barnes returns to Detroit after most recently spending time on the club's practice squad earlier this season. He originally entered the League in 2016, appearing in seven games as an undrafted rookie free agent with the Lions out of Louisiana Tech.
