Biography

Speedy wide receiver with proven hands that joins the Lions as an unrestricted free agent in 2016 following a four-year career with the Cincinnati Bengals. During his time with the Bengals, he appeared in 43 games (21 starts) and totaled 134 receptions for 1,729 yards (12.9 avg) and 15 touchdowns, including a career-high 10 in 2013.

2015: Rebounded from his season-ending injury in 2014 to start 13 of 16 games in his final season in Cincinnati. Finished the season with career highs in receptions (65) and receiving yards (816) and also tallied four touchdowns.

  • Totaled five receptions in seven games and 75 or more yards in four games, including a season-high nine catches for 95 yards at Buffalo (10/18).
  • Recorded the longest touchdown grab of his career with a 45-yard touchdown in Week 2 at San Diego (9/20).

2014: Missed the first three games of the regular season with a foot injury. Injured his ankle upon returning to practice in late September and was placed on Reserve/Injured for the remainder of the season.

2013: Played in all 16 games (three starts) for the first time in his career, hauling in 51 receptions for 712 yards and a career-high 10 touchdowns. Also carried the ball eight times for 65 yards. In the Bengals’ postseason game, had a big day with eight receptions for 130 yards.

  • Along with fellow WR A.J. Green, became the first pair of Bengals teammates to each record at least 10 receiving touchdowns in a season.
  • Set a franchise record by racking up four touchdowns to go along with eight receptions for 122 yards vs. the New York Jets (10/27). His four total touchdowns also tied the club record for total touchdowns in a game, equaling a mark set previously by RBs Larry Kinnebrew and Corey Dillon.
  • In Cincinnati’s Wild Card game vs. San Diego (1/5/14), his 130 receiving yards broke the previous franchise record of 120 set by WR Cris Collinsworth vs. New York Jets in 1983.

2012: As a rookie, appeared in 11 games with five starts and totaled 18 receptions for 201 yards and one touchdown. Missed five games due to a knee injury.

  • Moved into a starting role during the season’s final stretch, catching 10 passes for 110 yards over the final two games.
  • Scored his first-career touchdown on an 11-yard pass from QB Andy Dalton vs. Baltimore (12/30).

COLLEGE
Played four seasons (2008-11) at California, seeing action in 43 games, and had all 38 of his starts in last three seasons. His 156 career receptions tied for seventh in school history, his 2,270 yards ranked sixth and his 13 receiving touchdowns tied for eighth.

PERSONAL
A native of Fontana, Calif., Jones attended Etiwanda High School where he made the California Top 25 prospect list by Rivals.com. Played cornerback and wide receiver as a prep star, totaling 144 receptions, 2,349 yards and 22 touchdowns, as well as 133 tackles and seven interceptions over his final two seasons.

  • Majored in African American Studies at California.
  • Has three sons, Marvin III, Mareon and Murrell. He is married to his wife, Jazmyn.
