Jill Costanza enters her fifth season with the Lions in 2025 as the team's director of sports science, while also working as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the past four seasons. She is a certified strength and conditioning specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa).
Before coming to Detroit, Costanza spent two years with Guardian Premier Solutions (GPS), a professional training and coaching company, at the Lackland (Texas) Air Force Base. She served as the unit's program manager and focused on utilizing science and technology to optimize human performance, reduce injury, and expedite rehabilitation with the Air Force Special Warfare Program (AFSW).
From 2016-19, Costanza worked as a health educator for the U.S. Army at the Fort Hood (Texas) Base. The Army Wellness Center enhances force readiness by leveraging state-of-the-art techniques and equipment. She worked directly with soldiers to conduct fitness and body composition assessments, wrote training programs, utilized biofeedback for stress management, and provided sleep and nutrition education.
Costanza served as an athletic performance coach at the University of Texas from 2015-16, was a women's basketball manager at the University of Miami (Fla.) from 2013-14, and was a volunteer sport performance coach at the University of Houston in 2013.
Before working in college athletics, Costanza was a physical education teacher at the Alief Independent School District and a basketball coach at St. Agnes Academy, both located in Houston, Texas.
She received her master's degree in kinesiology and exercise science from Miami (Fla.) in 2015 and a bachelor's in sport and fitness administration/management from Houston in 2004.
