After joining the Lions player personnel department as a regional scout in May 2007, Dave Sears enters his 14th season in the department. Sears was named the team's Director of College Scouting in 2019, after spending the previous two seasons as the club's assistant director of college scouting. Prior to Detroit, he spent seven seasons (2000-06) with the Houston Texans.

Prior to Detroit, he spent seven seasons (2000-06) with the Houston Texans.

Prior to his time in Houston, Sears worked three seasons (1997-2000) with Washington's scouting department. He started with the Redskins as an intern in January 1997 and was hired as their scouting administrator in May. Sears was promoted as the Redskins' BLESTO scout in May of 1998. He also spent time interning for the Springfield Falcons in the American Hockey League.

Sears earned a bachelor's degree in sports management from Springfield (Mass.) College and was a four-year linebacker for Springfield's football team. He attended Hauppauge High School in his hometown of Hauppauge, N.Y., and lettered in football, basketball and lacrosse.

Sears is married to his wife, Nancy, and together they have a daughter, Delaine.
