Hostler, entering his 24th NFL season in 2023, joins the Lions after spending the past three seasons with the Washington Commanders, serving as their senior offensive assistant from 2021-22 and wide receivers coach in 2020. He helped WR Terry McLaurin post 1,000 receiving yards in each of his three seasons on staff, becoming Washington's first player to post three-straight 1,000-yard seasons since WR Henry Ellard from 1994-96. Hostler's previous NFL experience includes serving as the Carolina Panthers' wide receivers coach (2019), Green Bay Packers' passing game coordinator (2018), Indianapolis Colts' tight ends coach (2016-17) and wide receivers coach (2015), Buffalo Bills' senior offensive assistant (2014), Baltimore Ravens' wide receivers coach (2008-13), San Francisco 49ers' offensive coordinator (2007) and quarterbacks coach (2005-06), New York Jets' wide receivers coach (2004) and quarterbacks coach (2003), New Orleans Saints' assistant wide receivers coach (2001-02) and the Kansas City Chiefs' offensive quality control coach (2000). Before joining the NFL coaching ranks, Hostler had a 10-year stint at the college level, serving in a variety of roles on both sides of the ball at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (1990-92, 1994-99) with a stint as the offensive coordinator at Juniata College in between (1993).
