Lions sign free agent LB Marquis Flowers and waive LB Trevor Bates

Allen Park, Mich. – The Detroit Lions announced today that they have signed free agent LB Marquis Flowers and waived LB Trevor Bates. Contract terms were not disclosed.

Flowers comes to Detroit after appearing in 16 games (two starts) with the New England Patriots in 2017, where he posted 30 tackles, 3.5 sacks and one forced fumble en route to the club's berth in Super Bowl LII.

A sixth-round draft selection ( overall) by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2014 NFL Draft out of Arizona, Flowers spent three seasons (2014-16) with the Bengals before being traded to the Patriots in 2017. His career totals include 48 games played (three starts), 35 tackles (26 solo), 3.5 sacks and 13 total special teams tackles.
