Biography

Nine-year veteran roaming NFL defensive backfield who joins the Lions defense in 2015 and is expected to provide help at the nickel corner spot. Comes to Detroit with 118 career games (85 starts) and has tallied 414 total tackles (336 solo), five sacks, 15 interceptions, four touchdowns, 78 pass defenses, nine forced fumbles and 11 fumble recoveries following stints with the Atlanta Falcons (2014), Washington Redskins (2011-13), Baltimore Ravens (2010), and Seattle Seahawks (2007-09).

  • Picked off his first pass of the season, the fifth of his career, and finished with four solo tackles and one pass defense vs. Arizona (11/30).
  • Started two more games vs. Cleveland (11/23) and at Green Bay (12/8).

2013: Started all 16 games for the third-consecutive season and posted a career-high 93 tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles, one interception and seven pass defenses.

  • Recorded his fourth- and fifth-career sacks at Green Bay (9/15) and vs. New York Giants (12/1), respectively.
  • Picked off his lone interception of the season in the season finale at New York Giants (12/29).
  • Tallied a pass defense in seven games over the course of the season.

2012: Contributed 74 tackles (54 solo), one sack, two interceptions, 13 pass defenses, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries en route to leading the Redskins to a berth in the NFC Wild Card game vs. Seattle. The NFC Wild Card game vs. Seattle was his fifth-career postseason game, and he finished with five tackles (three solo), one sack and one tackle for loss.

2011: Started all 16 games for the first time in his career in 2011 and finished the season with 60 tackles (41 solo), two interceptions, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and a career-high 18 pass defenses.

2010: In his only season with the Ravens, played in 14 games (nine starts) and totaled 37 tackles (34 solo), 14 pass defenses, three interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown, and one sack.

2009: Concluded his final season in Seattle with 44 tackles (41 solo), two interceptions, both of which were returned for touchdowns, 13 pass defenses and one sack. Started all 12 games that he played in.

2008: Made 12 starts in 16 games with the Seahawks and totaled a then-career-high 76 tackles (69 solo), four interceptions (one touchdown) and one sack. Also set Seahawks single-season records for most kickoff returns (69) and kickoff return yards (1,753).

2007: : Played in 12 regular season games as a rookie with Seattle, recording his first-career tackle against Tampa Bay (9/9).

COLLEGE
Played in 46 of a possible 48 games during his career at Maryland and was a two-time Academic All-ACC selection. Was also the recipient of the James Tatum Award, given to the top football student-athlete in the ACC.

  • Despite not being a kick returner until his final collegiate season, he ranks eighth on the school’s career record list with 847 return yards.

Graduated from DeMatha (Md.) Catholic High School where he also ran track.

  • Father, Timothy, blocked for Hall of Fame RB Earl Campbell as a member of the Houston Oilers.
