A seven-year veteran roaming NFL defensive backfields, Ihedigbo comes to Detroit and joins fellow S Glover Quin as one of the most experienced safety tandems in the League. Joined the New York Jets as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2007 and played three seasons with the team (2008-10) before stops in New England (2011) and most recently Baltimore (2012-13). Played in a reserve safety role with the Ravens in 2012 en route to the team’s Super Bowl XLVII win over San Francisco.

A former walk-on at Massachusetts, earned his way to becoming a three-year starter (45-of-47) games and finished his collegiate career with 257 tackles (171 solo), 12.5 sacks, 23.5 tackles for loss, nine interceptions and 28 pass defenses.

  • Ranked sixth on the team with 72 tackles as a senior in 2006 and also posted five sacks, four forced fumbles (led Atlantic 10), eight pass defenses and three interceptions. Started all 11 and was named Third Team All-Atlantic 10 after recording eight pass defenses and three interceptions.
  • Named Third Team All-Atlantic 10 as a sophomore as a member of the nation’s leading scoring defense and No. 3 ranked total defense as a junior in 2005.

PERSONAL
Attended Amherst (Mass.) High School where he was a two-time All-Western Massachusetts and All-League selection. Rushed for 1,012 yards and 18 touchdowns as a senior, while totaling more than 2,000 all-purpose yards.

  • Selected to play in the Shrine Chowder Classic Bowl and was also a member of the basketball, lacrosse and track teams.
  • Established HOPE Africa (Helping Our People Excel) to aide as a boost for future young African leaders. In November 2012, hosted a celebrity fundraising dinner party with teammates benefitting the organization.
