Biography

Joins the Lions after spending two seasons (2015-16) with the New Orleans Saints and appeared in 19 games during that stint. Prior to New Orleans he spent time with the Dallas Cowboys (2014), Indianapolis Colts (2012) and Pittsburgh Steelers (2009-10). Began his career as a fourth-round pick (130th overall) by the Steelers in the 2008 NFL Draft out of Texas.

2016: Spent the preseason with the Saints before being released prior to the start of the regular season. Re-signed by New Orleans prior to a Week 3 (9/26) matchup with the Falcons and appeared in 11 games to finish the season.

2015: Spent a portion of training camp with the Panthers before being signed by the Ravens to the practice squad. Signed by the Saints to the active roster in midseason and played in eight games.

2014: Played in three games for the Dallas Cowboys after being signed to the active roster in midseason. Began the season on the Dolphins practice squad.

Started in 24 games at left tackle for the Longhorns in four seasons (2003-07) along the offensive line.

2007: Earned All-American first team honors and was a member of the Lombardi Award and Outland Trophy watch lists.  Missed two games due to injury (leg).

2006: Started all 13 games at offensive tackle as the team gained 162.6 rushing yards per game.

  • Earned All-Big 12 Conference honorable mention.
  • Recipient of the team’s Most Improved Offensive Player Award.

2005: Played in 11 games as the top reserve offensive lineman. Helped Texas rank first in the nation in scoring offense per game (50.2) and second in rushing offense per game (274.9).

  • Helped clear the way for Texas to set a then single-season school records in both points scored (652) and total yards (6,657).

2004: Appeared in seven games on offense and special teams while competing for playing time as the primary backup at left tackle.

  • Helped the offensive line clear the way for Texas to rank second in the nation in rushing per game (299.2) and seventh in total offense per game (464.4).

2003: Granted a medical hardship and spent the season recovering from a knee injury suffered during his high school senior year.

PERSONAL

Attended Alief Elsik (Houston, Texas) High School and was a three-year starter at tight end.
