Biography

Entering his fourth NFL season, Fells joins the Lions after stints with the Seahawks and Cardinals. After returning from a professional basketball career in Europe, Fells entered the League as a free agent in Seattle before being signed as a member of the Cardinals practice squad for his rookie season. He comes to the Lions after establishing himself as a dependable run-blocking tight end.

2016: Played in 14 games (7 starts) and totaled 14 receptions, 154 receiving yards and one touchdown.

  • Caught four passes for 31 yards in Week 2 against Tampa Bay (9/18).
  • Hauled in a 37-yard touchdown reception in Week 17 at Los Angeles Rams (1/1).

2015: Started a career-high 12 games and led all Cardinals tight ends in receiving.

  • Posted career highs in receptions (21), receiving yards (311) and touchdown receptions (3) in 14 total games.
  • Recorded four receptions for 82 yards and a touchdown against New Orleans in Week 1 (9/13). His 82 receiving yards tied the most by a Cardinals tight end in a game since 11/12/1989 (Rob Awalt vs. Dallas).

Did not play college football. Attended UC-Irvine where he played college basketball and was Second-Team All-Big West as a senior in 2008. Appeared in 123 games and averaged 10.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
