K Eddie Murray played 12 seasons for the Lions (1980-91) after he was Detroit's seventh-round draft pick from Tulane in 1980. The seventh-rounder proved to be a steal for Detroit as Murray immediately made an impact on the Lions and the NFL during his rookie season.

Murray led the NFL in field goals made (27) in 1980 and topped the NFC with 116 points scored. He was selected to play in the Pro Bowl after his rookie season and was voted the all-star game's Outstanding Player. While with Detroit, Murray became the Lions' all-time leading scorer with 1,113 points, a record that stood until it was broken by current Lions' placekicker Jason Hanson.

Murray connected on 244 field goals and 381 PATs during his Lions' career. Besides his rookie season, Murray earned a second trip to the Pro Bowl in 1990. After Detroit, Eddie played eight more NFL seasons and concluded his 19-year career in 2000 with the Washington Redskins. He also played for Tampa Bay, Kansas City and Philadelphia, Minnesota and with the Super Bowl XXVIII Champion Dallas Cowboys.

Murray ranks 11th among all-time NFL scorers with 1,594 points, just behind Hanson who ranks 10th, and he was selected to the All-Decade Team of the 1980s.
