It wasn’t much, but going through pregame warm-ups Friday night in Baltimore was an important step for running back ![]()
“I was able to go through it for the first time instead of just being thrown out there (when the time comes),” he said. “I was able to come up with a little pregame routine and it’s something I can stick to to warm myself up for the next time I get on the field for a game.”
Leshoure said he’s hoping that will be Saturday in Oakland when the Lions take on the Raiders in their third preseason game.
“I definitely want to get my feet wet a little bit with at least one preseason game. Get some reps under my belt,” Leshoure said after taking part in a full practice Sunday. “I know I don’t want to get thrown into the fire Week 3 coming straight into it. I’m glad that I’m healthy and hopefully able to get something in this week.”
Those odds went up exponentially Sunday when Leshoure took part in a full practice for the first time since straining his left hamstring the second day of training camp July 28.
“I felt good,” he said after Sunday's workout. “The hamstring feels good. They are easing me back into things. I had a couple runs; mostly play action and things like that. Seven-on-seven went well. I feel good.”
The important part of getting back into the team portion of practice for Leshoure is that it makes him have to read and react to defenses. Its not as structured and controlled as taking individual reps. Sunday was a good test to see where the hamstring stands and a good step forward for Leshoure as he looked good running the football.
“It was able to put him on a path to being out here today,”head coach Jim Schwartz said of putting Leshoure through pregame warm-ups in Baltimore. “Hopefully, he’ll get a little bit more each day and we’ll get him back 100-percent.”
There are three more practices this week for Leshoure to prove to the trainers and coaches he’s ready for his first NFL action in Oakland. After watching him run during practice Sunday, and then listening to him talk about it afterwards, the odds seem much better Leshoure makes his NFL debut on Saturday, barring any setbacks.
