Stafford made the rounds with DirectTV’s displaced fan winner, John Tracy, who won a weekend trip to the game, that including hanging out with Stafford on Friday, by proving how big of a Lions fan he was in a 4 1/2 minute video.
Stafford talked his season, the resurgence of the Lions and how close the Lions are to being a Super Bowl contender.
On the later, Stafford said the Lions aren’t as far away as some might think.
“I think we took a great step forward this year and learned a lot about our team and our players and coaching staff and everything and hopefully take that into next year and be that much better for it,” he told members of the Detroit media between appearances.
“I think we’re close (but) I think we have some steps to make. There are team’s year-in and year-out that make it to the playoffs and don’t go back to the playoffs for a couple more years. If we can avoid that, and be smart enough and tough enough to go out there and make it back to the playoffs, then anything can happen from there.”
If Stafford can continue his development coming off a record-breaking 2011 season (5,038 yards and 41 touchdowns), the Lions have the biggest piece in place to making a run sooner rather than later.
“I’m going to probably go back and look at the film when I go back (to Detroit) in April, break down the whole season, and figure out some things I can improve on and work toward that goal.”
