ORLANDO– The Lions are getting a bonus in this year’s draft with the award of two fourth-round compensatory picks – one more than was expected.

The picks awarded Monday at the NFL Annual Meeting give the Lions picks No. 133 and 136 overall. With 32 picks per round, the Lions are getting the first and fourth compensatory picks awarded in the round.

Picks are awarded on a formula established by the NFL that includes the net gain and loss of players in free-agent signings from the previous year. Only players signed before June 1 are included in the formula.

In 2013, the Lions signed three players who counted in the formula – running back Reggie Bush, safety Glover Quin and defensive lineman Jason Jones.

Five players were lost – defensive linemen Cliff Avril and Sammie Lee Hill, offensive tackle Gosder Cherilus, linebacker Justin Durant and defensive back Drayton Florence.
