DAY IN REVIEW: Getting a deal done with Suh imminent, says Mayhew

Mayhew also confirms unrestricted free agents that won't return, two exclusive rights free agents that will return, and the future at center.

The big news to come out of Friday's combine coverage was GM Martin Mayhew's confirmation that the Lions are looking to reach a deal with Ndamukong Suh that would keep him in Detroit longer than the remaining year left on his current contract.

"I would not be surprised if this (contract extension) happened on the eve of free agency or into free agency and the start of the new league year," said Mayhew in a morning session with beat reporters.

The one factor keeping a deal from being reached is Suh's current search for an agent.

"Suh is expected to sign with Jay Z's Roc Nation to handle his marketing and is considering a number of high-profile agents to handle his contract situation," said Tim Twentyman.

Mayhew also confirmed that unrestricted free agents David Akers (kicker), Dylan Gandy (center/guard), Israel Idonije (defensive end), Rocky McIntosh (linebacker) and John Wendling (special teams) would not be offered contracts for 2014.

On the flip side, he confirmed that exclusive rights free agents Kris Durham (wide receiver) and Jeremy Ross (wide receiver/return specialist) will be back.
