Packers Pro Bowl quarterback Aaron Rodgers thinks there’s a “strong possibility” backup quarterback Matt Flynn, who will be a free agent in March, will follow former Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin, the new head coach of the Dolphins, down to Miami. Speaking on his weekly radio show on ESPN Milwaukee and ESPN Madison, Rodgers said:
“I’ve spoken to Matt Flynn in the last few days and I think there’s a strong possibility that (Miami) would make a run at him. I think it kind of makes sense. Joe and that system, which I’m sure is going to be very similar to this system, Matt having a great grasp of that and playing well in his recent opportunities. I think it would make sense to bring Matt out there.”
Rodgers said he would expect more immediate success for Flynn in Miami because of his familiarity with the offense.
Rodgers also thinks the Seahawks would be a natural fit for Flynn. Seahawks general manager John Schneider knows Flynn well from his time in Green Bay.
“There will probably be five or six teams that legitimately take a look at Matt and can see him being an immediate improvement over what they have at quarterback,” Rodgers said.
Flynn set Packer single-season records for yards (480) and touchdowns (6) in a Week 17 victory over the Lions as Rodgers rested for the playoffs.
