WR Ryan Broyles among inactive players for Lions

The Lions will be without receiver Ryan Boryles today as he continues his trek back from ACL surgery

The Detroit Lions will be without the services of receiver Ryan Broyles today when they take on the Minnesota Vikings for the season opener.

Broyles is still recovering from a torn ACL suffered at the end of last year and will be one seven Lions inactive for the contest. Broyles is still not quite 100 percent back from a knee injury suffered last December and the Lions are going to take their time and make sure he’s completely ready before he returns to game action.

"I wouldn’t say easing because when he goes he goes hard," Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said this week. "He has been on a program and we have had the discipline to stick with that program. The plan is to see results in that."

It’s a similar plan as Broyles had last year, when he was coming into the NFL with a torn ACL in his other knee. He was inactive Week 1 vs. St. Louis and dressed Week 2 in San Francisco, but didn’t play.

Broyles said that he didn’t feel 100 percent until Week 4 last year, but admitted this week that he’s ahead of last years pace.

"I feel like I'm ahead of the curve, for sure," Broyles said this week. "But whatever the coaches think is the best for me, I'm going to go with that."

Broyles went through a full workout on the field before the game.

Also inactive for the Lions today is running back Mikel Leshoure, who has been supplanted in the lineup by Joique Bell.

Rookie first-round pick Ziggy Ansah is active, however Willie Young will start at right defensive end.

Ansah practice fully Friday and was listed as probable on the Friday’s injury report.

The other five inactives consist of quarterback Kellen Moore, cornerback Jonte Green, guard Leroy Harris, tackle LaAdrian Waddle and defensive end Devin Taylor.

As expected, Jason Fox will get the start at right tackle and rookie Larry Warford at right guard.
